Q: Now that you've had your performance, what is The Birds and the Bees: Unabridged up to?
A: We are in the process of figuring all that out! It is our hope to get a production of The Birds and the Bees: Unabridged touring to colleges and theatres around the country. If you're interested in hosting our performance, plase see the information below.

Q: Why do you keep saying "woman" and "people assigned female at birth?" Why not just say woman?
A: Gender is a really complex subject, there are women-identified individuals who were assigned male at birth, and there are people who were assigned female at birth who do not identify as women. Often, the termonology used for these marvelous folks is "trans." The term "trans" (short for transgender or transexual) can mean a lot of different things. The exact definition is always in flux, but some people define it as the state of ones gender identity (self-identification as woman, man, neither or both) not matching one's assigned sex (identification by others as male, female or intersex based on physical/genetic sex.) It can also mean of, relating to, or designating a person whose identity does not conform unambiguously to conventional notions of male or female gender roles, but combines or moves between these. Q: You're working with women and people who were assigned female at birth. But what about the guys?! Isn't gender just a construct anyways?!
A: We're hoping to examine all of these issues within the group. Why do we need spaces without men? When do they become problematic? How can we open our space to be inclusive of people of all genders? There are some awesome guys out there working for women's lib, how can we include them in the process? What does the word "female" mean anyway?

Q: Twenty people is a large group, but there's no way you’ll be able to represent ALL the voices of women and those assigned female at birth.
A: No matter how many people we survey, no matter how many people we talk to, there will ALWAYS be voices missing from the conversation. The show that we’re producing is not representative of ALL people, nor is it inclusive of everyone who is a woman or assigned female at birth. However, we hope that our (albeit limited) conversation can provide the spark to get those voice included in the conversation as well.
That said, we hope to include as many ideas, perspectives and opinions in the show as possible. We are doing a few things to help bring as many voices in to the process as we can. Our survey on female sexuality has been sent worldwide and received 2,000 responses! And keep an eye out for our call for interviewee's with interesting perspectives on sexuality during our devising process. Finally, if you have a story or something important to say, please feel free to let us know!

Q: I’m confused about your process, will you have an actual script or is this an improv event?
A: We do not have a script right now, but as of March we will have a finalized script and the ensemble will be rehearsing actual lines and blocking. While we use improvisation during the process of creating the piece, the actual performance you see in March will be scripted.

Q: Are you all experts in the field of sexuality? What qualifies you to do this work?
A: While Rachel and Maggie have done extensive work about sex and sexuality, they don't necessarily consider themselves "experts" in the field. Maggie works as a sex educator around the country and Rachel has worked with numerous groups focused on sex/uality. Our expertise however, does lie in working with people, listening to stories and thoughts and helping to craft them into a meaningful piece of theater. We believe that all women have a great deal to offer on the subject and feel that their opinions and thoughts can craft an important piece.
